The Pridelands were silent as the brown lioness made her way through the short grass with practiced ease; each pawstep light and soundless. She was restless, which was becoming a more and more common occurrence which gave way to this new nightly ritual. Upon seeing the pond near Pride Rock, Shira gave a small smile and approached it, raising her paw as if about to catch a large juicy fish, though upon seeing her own reflection, she stopped.
Staring back at her was a lioness who looked far older than her years, with scruffy fur and lifeless eyes. The former Coastlander felt her spirits plummeting as she took in her own reflection, before she sat down and allowed her emotions to manifest in the form of silent tears.
This place was perfect, but it wasn't home. Her home was gone, and everyone she ever loved was gone along with it. She wanted to fool herself into believing that this place was her home, but she knew in her heart that it wasn't and never would be.
Between her accent, her darker fur, and her overall way of thinking about things she knew she would never belong, and she knew that the majority of the Pridelanders would never allow her to belong either. She tried to ignore their whispering and their gossip, but she knew what they all said.
She was just a foreigner... and this was not where she was meant to be.
